The street took the name of Loreto because it borders the chapel of Nuestra Señora de Loreto located next to the Iglesia de la Compañía[4]u200b.Since 1972 the road is part of the Monumental Zone of Cusco declared a Historical Monument of Peru.[5]u200b Also, in 1983 as part of the historic center of the city of Cusco, It is part of the central area declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.[6]u200b and in 2014, as it formed part of the Tawantinsuyo road network, it was once again declared a World Heritage Site.< span>[7]u200b
