The Seealpsee provides hydroelectric power and drinking water to the town of Appenzell through the Kraftwerk Seealpsee-Wasserauen, which is run by the Feuerschaugemeinde.

The Berggasthaus Forelle am Seealpsee, with a large open air terrace, dominates the western end of the lake.
